If you can think of an image
to deposit your meaning
and if you can make it be
understood by others
inspiring for others
consoling for others
then it's like you've captured
timelessness in time
something bigger than yourself
eternal and ineffable questions
given texture and response
a sort of perfection in a shell
the creation of a word

The issue with desiring others to care for your feelings is that a lot of communication must occur in cases where you wish communication didn't have to occur. You meet, have many positive experiences, and conjure an alternate reality where that ounce of greatness that you saw in the other person surely has the potential to infiltrate every other side of his or her psyche. You begin to overlook the rotten parts. You attempt to fit them into a mold of perfect potential, an arduous process that requires abundant patience, self-doubt, and sacrifice. This is okay because you imagine they're likely doing the same. The ongoing internal debate on whether this is worthwhile ends with constant victory to the more optimistic, perhaps a little sadder, side of you. It takes time to realize the impossibility of this process.

It hits one day. At once, a brilliant image you painted is gone, and you stand alone in a scene of make-believe, traumatized by what you've done to yourself. It burns deeper when that dismal epiphany is shared, and they, too, look to you with an expression of disbelief. "Then why are you with me," they ask, and you have no answer. This wasn't the answer. You weren't the answer.

Carving out a blank state of mind. I'm so happy today!

Guichanaso.
My roommate likes reading entire articles out loud. She also has a new idea every hour, perhaps a new recipe to try, a new party idea. A new article to read! A new craft project. When on most days I'm still trying to digest things that happened in the morning, it's hard to take in. I think it's kind of nice.

It's already time to get a new notepad. I think I've found mine. It's a light brown spring-bound note, approximately the size of a Hallmark birthday card, no lines, all brown paper, recycled. It contains doodles and little ideas I have in class and things I found funny that professors will say in passing. Like one time when a guest lecturer said, "It's never a bad idea to go see a shrink." I had so many questions for him! Or another time in an English class when we were discussing Ezra Pound, and the professor tried to make us understand that there are moments that don't make sense. What's illogical is entirely natural, so then it's all rather silly, to seek sense in nonsensical things.

Other times, I'll write down fun things classmates say, like the first time I heard a girl describe a person as "granola." When she said that I thought it was the greatest thing, because I imagined a male college student with curly hair, looking confused, wearing a green wool sweater littered with granola, and to think, just one word could conjure such a specific image! There are other words like that, too. Like caramelized. Crapshoot. Constantinople a great word, especially of late; I wish it were a real word and not just a name.

My friend Michael said I must be in my "mysterious mood" today. I didn't know what that meant at first, so I just blurted some horse shit answer. He continued. "Well, indecisive, at least. When it comes to emotions, it seems like you don't like making decisions."

A friend asked me how I was doing, if I was lonely.
The first one was a no-brainer,
but the second one no one asked me in a while.
I said, 'I dunno'.
A phrase I used to hate because it sounded careless.

A Small Rebellion

I have trouble dealing with transience. It's depressed me as a child, as a student, as an adolescent, and writing, and photography, and collecting objects, never being able to let things go, as if a small personal rebellion against what I know in life to be true -- transience. All to fight transience. What is "mine," I wondered, each time something I believed to be mine escaped me and moved on and almost willfully. Making me the fool.

On a separate note, this cat helps me feel less alone.

I'm selfish. I'm disloyal. I'm inconsistent. I'm rebellious. I'm judgmental. I'm sensitive. I'm unplanned. I procrastinate. I'm lazy. I'm a space cadet. I'm awkward. I'm uncomfortable. I try too hard to be diplomatic. I'm scared easily. I'm fickle. I'm weak. I'm hedonistic. I'm romantic. I'm a hoarder. I'm impractical. I'm a follower. I'm petulant. I'm a sore loser. I'm spoiled. I'm bad at understanding economics. I'm not quantitative. I'm passive-aggressive. I'm pent up. I'm a wannabe. I'm fake. I'm a try-hard. I'm young. I'm impatient. I'm an overthinker. I'm embarrassed.
